When Aoi was 10 years old, he managed to break the seal that was placed on the Momochi Mansion. He was mistaken for being the head of the Momochi clan. As a result he became a Nue, a human that was forcefully transformed into Omamori-sama, the deity who guards and protects the gate that separates the human world from the spirit/demon realm.
