Shortly after entering high school, Haruna becomes determined to find a boyfriend under the influence of all the shoujo manga she reads. She accidentally meets Yoh after a failed attempt at being "picked up" by guys and asks him to coach her on how to be more attractive. After some prodding, Yoh finally accepts to teach her under two conditions; one: she mustn’t cry, and two: she cannot fall in love with him. She eagerly accepts, and the two start training. Yoh helps her on a day to day basis, giving her advice on what to wear every day and how to act around guys.

Haruna is a tomboy and star athlete. She acts in a direct manner and would do anything for her friends. Sometimes she can be a bit airheaded, specifically when it comes to social cues and interpreting interactions with others. Haruna has driving ambition and when she wants something she goes after it with fervor. She is a big idealist.
