During her elementary school years, she became interested in ballet from watching her neighbor, Risa performing La Sylphide. At first, she does not find ballet to be much fun, since she cannot perform the same steps like Risa, but she learns that it takes practice to become better at something.
Kanade can be very stubborn at first when it comes to ballet, but with her keen observation and passion, she begins to improve and mature throughout the series.
Her relations to the other characters, such as Shouko, Risa, and later Sakura, also help her through both her wins and loses in ballet.
