A 16-year-old girl who can hear lies. Whenever a person lies, Kanoko hears a metal clanging sound in the liar's spoken words.

Since her childhood she has been shunned and rejected by her village because of this ability. She moves away on her own to find a place where no one knows of her ability. She fears being alone and trusting people, but is kind and willing to help others. She meets Detective Souma Iwai and upon discovering her unique ability, asks her to be his assistant. Through aiding the detective in his cases, she discovers her 'curse' may actually be a 'blessing.'
