Mari is Yukiko's mother. She and Yukiko frequently get into arguments over how messy Yukiko's room is. After beating cancer at over 50 years old, she decides to live without holding back from what she wants and marries Ken, a man three years younger than her daughter.

Mari has a complicated relationship with her mother, who used to favor Tsutomu and comment negatively on Mari's appearance, which ruined her self esteem. Due to this, Mari confesses that she wouldn't cry when her mother died, and doesn't believe that compliments on her appearance are sincere.
