Hachune is a mispronunciation of Hatsune, which shows her childishness and foolishness. She is essentially a Miku Hatsune clone, so she shares her characteristics, but with a rather comedic twist. Hachune is one of the Vocaloid derivatives officially recognized by Crypton Future Media, the publisher of the Character Vocal Series for VOCALOID2. She is intended primarily as a mascot, rather than a singing derivative. Her first song was Ievan Polkka (at the time the name Hachune Miku was n't decided). This video made Vocaloid world-famous and also started the fanmade setting of Vocaloids having character items.

In Hatsune Mix, Hachune often appears out of nowhere, upsetting the main characters and generally getting herself into trouble. She usually only comes up to the other characters knees in height, but in one chapter she appears as a giant.
