Natsu's father worked for Komomo's family when he was a child. Komomo would often demand pastries from Natsu. Natsu then moves with his father to France to study to become a confectioner. Ten years later, Natsu moves back to Japan and aims to get revenge on Komomo for the way she treated him as a child, starting with making her work at his and his father's shop, named Meli Melo.

When Mitsuru confronts Natsu about his potential marriage arrangement to Komomo, Natsu responds very calmly, giving the two his graces. Later we learn that is not because he wants to, but because he thinks it's what's best for Komomo.
Natsu is found to be very protective over Komomo, and in Volume 5 he admits that it's due to him being in love with her.
In Chapter 29, he finally confesses to Komomo, who returns with him to Meli Melo.
